With 4.5-week grades posting on September 2, reflect on your experience in AP Language so far. What has been going well for you, what has been challenging, and what is one thing you need to improve moving forward?

Prompt: I think I have been doing absolutely amazing in ap lang so far, in fact I'm the top of my class in ap lang! I've been having an amazing year and I don't have any real concerns in all seriousness. I am excited to continue to go through my senior year with relative ease.  Summary: We did an assignment /notes about multicultural lit Reflection: I enjoy the focus on more diverse identities other than race.

Judith Ortiz Cofer says, “The Island travels with you.” What part of your culture, family, or identity do you feel “travels” with you everywhere you go?

Prompt: The part of my family that i feel like travels with me everywhere is politeness. I was always taught to be kind to waiters and people who are working to help you. This follows me everywhere no matter the area. Summary: We did an assignment /notes about multicultural lit Reflection: I enjoy the focus on more diverse identities other than race.

Which learning method do you enjoy the most? Class discussions, worksheet work, or hands-on activities. Select one and tell why.

Prompt Response:  I enjoy hands on activity the most. This is due to it being the most stimulating and fun way to learn. I also feel like I retain the knowledge better. Summary: We did an assignment /notes about multicultural lit Reflection: I enjoy the focus on more diverse identities other than race.

Prompt: Write about an experience when someone assumed something about you because of a stereotype. What was the situation, and what did you do?

Prompt Response:  An experience when someone assumed something about me because of stereotype is when I was first meeting my girlfriend. She thought because of my queer identity i didn't like women at all. This was clarified by me being being bisexual which means I'm not just attracted to men.  Summary: We did an assignment /notes about multicultural lit Reflection:  I enjoy the focus on more diverse identities other than race.

Prompt: In “Girl” by Jamaica Kincaid, the mother provides her daughter with numerous expectations about how a girl should behave. Reflect on a specific gender expectation within your culture that has been challenging for you to navigate. Then describe one clear example of this expectation and explain why it has been difficult for you. Keep your response concise, vivid, and focused on your personal experience.

prompt: I think it has been challenging for me to navigate the stigma around mental  health. It took me a long time to get resources for my ocd and even then I don't think it was ever taken seriously. Summary: We read "girl' and discussed it after. Reflection: I enjoyed the tempo of the story it was very punchy.

Write about a time when you did something out of the norm. What was it and how did others react?

Prompt: A time I did something out of the norm is when I dyed my hair over the summer. Others mostly asked if it was intentional and little kids at the pool I worked at made fun of it.  Summary: We worked on a sheet about gender norms and discussed it as a class. Reflection: I enjoy talking about gender more than race because I feel like I know more about the subject.

Prompt: Describe a time when you felt completely lost.

Prompt: One time I was completely lost is the first day in school. I didn't really know what to expect from high school or what I even really wanted out of it. I had trouble navigating to my classes as well and it took a long time wandering around. Summary: We worked on a gender role sheet. Reflection: I enjoyed talking about gender more than race because I feel like I have more to talk about.

Prompt: Analyze how you’ve adapted to the demands of this course over the past week, and evaluate one strength and one challenge you anticipate as we progress, justifying your insights with personal examples.

Prompt: I think I've had to listen more to other peoples arguments and really try to understand just how different peoples perspectives can be to mine. Something i feel like i might struggle with is understanding these peoples opinions and finding common ground. Summary: we talked about Langston Hughe's  I too poem and talked about it. Reflection: I have no idea what to write.

Prompt: If someone tried to understand you using only your race, what important things would that person miss? Describe at least three other parts of your cultural identity that help make you who you are.

Prompt Response:  I think they would miss the fact that i'm incredibly privileged to be in the country that favors me significantly. I don't really have any cultural traits that I can think of that would seriously change somebody's perception of me. Summary: We reviewed multiple videos and discussed them as a class.  Reflection:  I thought Floyd had a really odd argument that wasn't at all acknowledging mine.

Prompt: Think about the different people, cultures, experiences, communities, interests, and traditions that have shaped who you are. What parts of your identity have had the greatest influence on the person you are today? Have you ever felt pressure to change, hide, or emphasize a part of yourself in order to fit in?

Prompt Response:   I think the part of my culture that has the greatest influence on me today  is probably being american. I come from a 3rd generation military family and I sometimes have felt pressure not to express my opinions due to this. I have very liberal beliefs and sometimes I feel like I can't express my opinions on things like war them due to my family being mostly military men.  Summary: Absent Reflection:  Absent

Prompt: Describe a meaningful family tradition unique to your culture and explain how it mirrors or contrasts with the cultural identity themes of expectations.

Prompt:  A meaningful family tradition that I have that is unique to my culture is thanksgiving. It contrasts with others because usually when another culture kills millions of people we don't have a holiday about it. Summary: Absent Reflection: Absent

Three academic goals

My first goal is to graduate and walk across the stage and leave Lakeside in the rear view. My second is to get all A's and B's and keep my GPA high so I can get into a good school. My third goal is to get into a college I like so I can attend next year. Summary: We made our blog accounts and talked about expectations for the year. Reflection: I didn't have my Chromebook yet so I had to be on my phone.
